Air Jordan 11 Shoes
Originally released in 1995, the Air Jordan 11 became one of, if not THE most popular sneaker of all time, seemingly overnight. Designed to be worn on-and-off the court, the AJ 11 appealed to the masses with its sleek look and shiny, patent leather detailing.
In 1995 the Air Jordan 11 debuted with the “Concord” colorway. It was the first Air Jordan model to feature a carbon fiber midfoot shank plate and patent leather. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, it is widely known as Tinker’s favorite sneaker he has created. Not to mention Michael Jordan’s favorite from his illustrious line. When asked what he wanted for his eleventh signature sneaker, Jordan stated that he wanted something that performed well on the court and could wear casually and formally. The infamous patent leather detailing from the Air Jordan 11s design achieved this aesthetic.
The Air Jordan 11 received significant media buzz by debuting on the court during the 1995 NBA Playoffs. Ahmad Rashad did a historic on-screen, up-close look at the Air Jordan 11, straight from MJ’s feet during the broadcast of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The AJ 11 would later release to coincide with the beginning of the 1995-96 NBA season. It has had plenty of pop culture moments throughout the years, including being worn on-screen by MJ in the filmSpace Jam and by Boyz II Men on the red carpet of the Grammys.
The Air Jordan 11 was initially released in three colorways: Concord, Columbia, and Bred. It also spawned a low-top “IE” iteration that came in two colorways: Bred and Cobalt. Jordan rocked the AJ 11 on-court for the entire 1995-96 NBA season en route to his fourth NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls and first title since returning from retirement.
Since 2000, we have seen the Air Jordan 11 Retro in various OG and new colorways, which we still see today. Collaborations have been few and far between, but plenty of player exclusives have been made. Chris Paul, Ray Allen, Carmelo Anthony, Maya Moore, Randy Moss, and Derek Anderson have all been fortunate to receive their exclusive AJ 11. Even Jordan-sponsored colleges have been blessed with exclusives. In addition, some new colorways have even ranked up there next to the OG’s, such as the Cool Grey, Win Like 96, Gamma Blue, and Pantone. Almost thirty years later, the AJ 11 is still as iconic as ever.
