Nike Blazer Shoes

Nike released the Blazer, the up-and-coming footwear company’s first basketball shoe, in 1973. Somehow, Nike convinced NBA legend George “Iceman” Gervin to debut the new kicks on court and he loved them. The Blazer was intended to compete with adidas and Converse products so the silhouette featured, then-standard, rubber soles and was released in high-top and low-top form. The Nike Blazer has transitioned off of the basketball court and into skateboard and street culture. Look through the most admired Nike Blazer collaborations with Off-White, Supreme, Stussy and more here.

Making its first appearance on the basketball court in 1973, the Nike Blazer has since transformed from a performance-driven design to an iconic lifestyle sneaker. The Blazer was originally named after the Portland Trail Blazers, acknowledging Nike's Oregon roots, and was known for its simple design and superior ankle support. Its large swoosh and hightop silhouette stood out during the era, making it a trendsetter from the beginning.

Over the years, the Blazer has seen numerous revisions, including low-top and mid-top versions, and a myriad of collaborations and colorways. The Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid "The Ten" by Virgil Abloh and the sacai x Nike Blazer Mids, in particular, have been game-changers, pushing the boundaries of conventional design and cementing the Blazer's status as a sought-after piece among sneaker enthusiasts.

Today, the Nike Blazer is celebrated for its minimalistic yet versatile aesthetic. Its appeal spans across different generations and subcultures, highlighting its timeless design and Nike's commitment to style and innovation.
