Air Jordan 6 Shoes

Originally released in 1991, the Air Jordan 6 is a unique silhouette. Tinker Hatfield has gone on record to say that there was no direct inspiration for the model, it was all about performance. However, we do see some design cues from sports cars. The Air Jordan 6 is best known for being Michael Jordan's sneaker while winning his first NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls.

In 1991 the Air Jordan 6 made its debut. Similar in design to the AJ 5, the AJ 6 came in high-top, complete with translucent hits on the outsole and accompanying lacelocks. The major design influence we see on this silhouette comes from Michael Jordan’s Porsche 911, with the back heel pull tab mimicking a spoiler. Another unique detail found on the Jordan 6 is via the upper, as the two overlays form the number “23.” In addition, the neoprene tongue provides breathability while the rubber pull locks your foot in.

The Air Jordan 6 was initially released in five colorways: Black Infrared, White Infrared, Carmine, Sport Blue and New Maroon. Spike & Mike were back for another ad campaign, Michael Jordan Flight School. But what is perhaps the most important milestone connected with the AJ 6 is that MJ wore them en route to his first NBA title. This iconic silhouette has been the inspiration for various Jordan Brand releases such as the Jordan MVP.

Since 2000, we have seen the Air Jordan 6 Retro in various OG and new colorways, which we still see today. Collaborators, including Travis Scott, Slam Dunk, Macklemore, Gatorade and more, have all been fortunate enough to design their own exclusive AJ 6. Some of them made it to retail, while others did not. Some new colorways have even ranked up there next to the OG’s, such as the Doernbecher, UNC, Olympic and DMP. Thirty-plus years later, the AJ 6 is still as iconic as ever.

Originally retailing for $125, the Air Jordan 6's retail price has increased through the years and now has a sticker price of $200 for men, $150 for GS, $90 for PS, and $75 for TD. Retail also increases depending on the colorway/release, occasionally up to $275. Find all the Jordan 6's past and present on Sole Retriever today!
