The LD-1000 is one of Nike’s most memorable running shoes, but not for its successes. The first long-distance runner in the Beaverton line, the 1970s silhouette was originally crafted with a massive flared heel designed to help runners move faster. Instead, the heel flare posed serious injury risk, caused a sneaker recall, and a total reimagining of the shoe. Still, in his memoir, Phil Knight recalls the quick reaction to fix the LD-1000 issue as a defining moment in Nike’s legacy.
The LD-1000 is back again in a new colorway for the holiday season, rounding out 2025 with more ever-popular animal print. Giving the long-distance runner-turned-lifestyle classic a farmland makeover, the LD-1000 Cow Print is covered in a hairy brown and off-white cow print. The chocolate milk colorway features a white Swoosh, lace panel, tongue, and midsole, with a gum outsole to complete the look.
