Anthony Edwards surprised the sneaker and basketball worlds when he introduced his first signature sneaker, the adidas AE 1, in December 2023. Throughout 2024, adidas and Ant dropped multiple colorways of the mid-top and low-top versions of the AE 1, garnering praise to the tune of numerous sneaker of the year awards across the sneaker media space. Finally, adidas has teased us with a preview of the follow-up to Ant-Man’s smash-hit first signature sneaker.
Most signature sneaker models run on a 12-month cycle, typically introduced around the start of the NBA season. Still, adidas is taking a different approach with Ant, who is considered the future face of the adidas Basketball division. The massive success of his AE 1 caused the brand to sit back and allow the model more time to be in the market, drumming up hype for the follow-up initially expected to be released in December 2024. Throughout last year, images of early samples of the AE 2 hit the ‘net.
