Nothing is ever truly original. That’s most definitely true in the sneaker space as its not uncommon for footwear designers to pull inspiration from other sources, whether that be in the design of the model itself or specific colorways. The latter of the two rings true for an all-new colorway of the Vans Premium Old Skool 36, which takes inspiration from the Chanel On The Pavement Messenger bag.

The Chanel On The Pavement Messenger bag, released as part of Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2015 ready-to-wear collection, was one of the most eye-catching pieces from the show. Many of the items came as part of Chanel’s graffiti collection, a departure from the brand’s typical haute couture style. It retailed for around $4,400 and has sold for as much as $15,000 since its original release.

The washed, painted, and vintage-looking upper is nearly identical to the Chanel bag, while the jazz stripe and the lining of the tongue are done in a multi-color tweed finish. Vintage-style pins are attached across the midfoot, while the rest of the upper is finished with brown leather paneling on the toe, eyelets, and heel overlay. Final details include a burgundy sockliner, which mimics the interior of the Chanel bag, and a pre-worn vulcanized rubber midsole.
The Vans Premium Old Skool 36 Souvenir will release July 31, 2025, through Vans online. A retailer drop is set for August 8, 2025. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $125.
