It looks like the New Balance 1000 is following in the footsteps of the mighty 1906R. Ever since the latter was revived a few years ago, it has spun off into several sub-silhouettes, including the 1906A and 1906W. In the same vein, the 1000 is now getting its very first offshoot, kicking things off with the upcoming New Balance 1000D Desert Clay.
While it’s still unclear what the “D” in its name actually stands for, one thing’s obvious: this version looks far more futuristic than the “regular” 1000. The toebox and mudguard are both dressed in Desert Clay with a metallic sheen, while the Mosaic Green “N” logo is rendered in translucent rubber for an ultra-modern vibe. Even the mesh base, which is usually exposed and open to the elements, is shielded by an intricate netting that gives it a layered, deconstructed edge. Maybe that’s what the “D” stands for. Who knows?
Down below, these New Balances keeps things familiar with the classic midsole. Infused with plush ABZORB cushioning for all-day comfort, it’s also supported by a Stability Web shank, ensuring responsiveness with every step. 3M reflective detailing rounds everything off, so you can flex confidently even after the sun sets and the streets light up.
