Before sneakerheads flocked to Asics for its slew of mesh runners and Y2K-style sneakers, they were checking out the Japanese label’s Gel-Lyte series. Plenty of key collaborators helped bring energy to the Gel-Lyte III and Gel-Lyte V, the two most popular in the series, over the decades, including mita sneakers. Next up for the duo is a new fusion silhouette that combines elements from the Gel-Lyte III and Gel-Lyte V.
The retailer, which also calls Japan home, has been partnering with Asics for decades, first teaming up on a handful of Gel-Lyte IIIs in 2008. Since then, they’ve worked on over a dozen different releases, mostly focusing on the Gel-Lyte III and playing a significant role in celebrating anniversaries for the sneaker. In 2015, they launched the first Trico colorway as part of the 25th anniversary of the model, later revisiting this theme for the 30th anniversary in 2020 and then once again in 2024 for the Summer Olympics in Paris.

This new model, dubbed the Gel-Lyte ∞, gets its name from combining the numbers of the two sneakers that inspired its design (3 and 5). mita sneakers also shared that they’ve been developing the fusion silhouette for three years, combining iconic details from both models like the split tongue from the Gel-Lyte III and the overlay paneling from the Gel-Lyte V. The Trico color palette, here primarily done in blue hues with red and white accents, is derived from the original Mexico line back during the brands days as Onitsuka Tiger.

Premium suede details appear on the light blue panels on the toe and midfoot, while a purplish-blue is used for the suede on the midfoot and collar. White quilted suede rests below this, while the black zipper shroud keeps the split tongue together. Gel-Lyte ∞ logos are stamped on the lateral collar, while the insole features co-branded Asics and mita sneakers logos alongside a signature detail found on most mita sneakers projects: a chainlink graphic.
The mita sneakers x Asics Gel-Lyte ∞ Trico will release via a raffle on August 8, 2025, exclusively via mita sneakers online. An online FCFS release will take place on August 12, 2025.
