The China-Exclusive Nike S.T. Flare Releases June 2025

Nike dominates the basketball space globally, though players face a unique challenge that most don’t even realize exists in China — the unpredictable outdoor courts. For the first time in Nike's history, the brand has created a performance basketball shoe specifically catering to the Chinese market, the S.T. Flare.
Like many basketball shoes produced for the Asian market, the S.T. Flare contains a durable XDR (extra durable rubber) outsole. This differs from the standard rubber sole units Nike uses for U.S. releases, though they still produce versions of these hoop shoes with XDR sole units, resulting in two different versions hitting the market.
The reinforced rubber is paired with a full-length macro herringbone traction pattern, giving players the grip they need for quick stops, sharp directional changes, and explosive takeoffs. Cushioning is handled by a plush Cushlon 3.0 foam midsole paired with a forefoot Air Zoom unit for responsiveness and energy return during fast-paced play.
“We closely studied the unique environments of basketball courts across China — from cement to blacktop to synthetic rubber materials,” says Ross Klein, Senior Director, Men’s Basketball Footwear Product Design. “The Nike S.T. Flare is built to meet the durability, traction and comfort needs of players who train and compete outdoors. We’re always thinking about how to serve athletes through innovation and design,” says Klein. “This shoe is built for the real challenges our athletes face — because every detail matters when it comes to performance.”
Beyond performance underfoot, the S.T. Flare is built for stability and support. A TPU shank enhances lateral stability, while Flywire technology combined with a lateral guardrail keeps the foot secure during high-speed maneuvers, helping reduce the risk of ankle injuries. The engineered mesh upper adds breathability while reinforcing high-wear areas for added durability.
The Nike S.T. Flare will debut on June 1, 2025, exclusively in China via Nike, the Nike Tmall flagship store, and select retailers online and in-store.
