2024 reintroduced us to the New Balance 1000, an archival silhouette born in 1999 that fell to the wayside and was almost forgotten in history. Since this successful revival, multiple collaborations have landed on the sneaker, including from Aime Leon Dore, Kith, Joe Freshgoods, and thisisneverthat, with more to come in 2025. Adding to the list of partners working on the sneaker is atmos, as Creative Director Hirofumi Kojima has teased the Japanese retailer’s version of the NB 1000.
Kojima’s Instagram caption called the pair “Bāṅdhnū,” which, when translated directly from Nepali, means “to tie” or “to bind.” However, the word in Hindi, spelled “Bāndhnā,” is more directly related to the English word “Bandana,” which is the theme based on the paisley print pattern applied to the canvas base.
