Best Timberland Collabs

The arrival of winter means that people will once again be on the lookout for kicks that are a little more agreeable to the colder and wetter months. For sneakerheads who want to step out of their Vomeros, Gel-Lytes, and Sambas, Timberland has got the boots for them. A staple of East Coast footwear for nearly 50 years, the 6-inch workboots in their classic nubuck have gone from being exclusive to construction workers to becoming a regular in the sneakerhead rotation regardless of the time of year. If Nike owns all-white and all-black sneakers thanks to the Air Force 1, when people see boots in that familiar wheat or black, their mind will instantly turn to Timberland regardless of brand.

Over the past few years, we have seen Timberland become a fashion icon that reaches all the way up to the hallowed grounds of Louis Vuitton. The luxury co-sign might be seen as a validation of sorts for the brand, but for fans who have been there before the hype, this was a sign of validation for Louis Vuitton that they were finally catching up with the times. And that’s because before LV got on board, we had seen Timbs all over the place, working with legendary brands in pop culture and the sneaker world.

Our countdown of our favorite Timberland collaborations shows the variety of brands that they have worked with through the years. Their growth from working with mom-and-pop shops in New York City to Louis Vuitton is documented here as we eagerly await what is next for the brand.

10 - Sonic the Hedgehog x Timberland (2025)

Does it make sense that Sonic the Hedgehog, the fastest thing alive, wears Timbs? Not really, but who’s going to tell iconic video game company SEGA that they can’t work with Timberland on an ultra-limited collaboration to celebrate the opening of their flagship store in Shibuya? Nobody, not even that noted hater Dr. Eggman/Robotnik is going to stop this one. The collab itself is relatively tame, from the co-branding to Sonic embedded on the heel to the cobalt blue laces, but with an extremely low production run of 30 pairs, you had to be fast to grab a pair of these. No word if chili dogs or Olive Garden gift cards were included in the promotion of this collab when they dropped earlier this year.

9 - Off-White x Timberland (2017)

Released a few months after the iconic “The Ten” collection with Nike, Timberland tapped the late Virgil Abloh and his Off-White brand for a compelling new take on the iconic boots in a softer velvet finish. While there were your standard issue Wheat and Wine colored boots that don’t look out of place with your general release slate, we also got two pairs in slime green and citrus orange that defy expectations. Couple them with your Off-White accoutrements like the zip tag and the contrasting-colored laces, and it’s a piece of footwear history that is just waiting for its time to shine once more. All it needs is an anniversary or a throwback fit by a celebrity du jour and people will be digging for their pairs in storage in no time.

8 - JJJJound x Timberland (2024)

Justin Saunders’ JJJJound sneaker collaborations that specialize in elevating iconic sneakers through premium materials and minimalist touches are equal parts inspiring and frustrating to sneakerheads. The subtle changes they make with New Balance and adidas sneakers result in “a ha” moments because it’s amazing to most people that these alterations have never been thought of. Meanwhile, others see those sneakers and deride them for their alleged lack of creativity and it exposes the culture’s slavish dedication to team-ups that don’t really push boundaries. All of this is to say that nobody’s opinion will change when they look at JJJJound’s premium take on the iconic Timberland boots that includes full-grain leather, waterproof GORE-TEX membrane and Vibram outsoles. JJJJound’s method of elevation either works for you or you hate them with the fury of a thousand sneakerheads who took an L on release day because they didn’t use the Sole Retriever app.

7 - Wale x Villa x Timberland The Gift (2014)

Wale is currently making sneaker headlines thanks to his long-awaited official collaborations with Nike on the Goadome Boots and the GT Future, but in nearly two decades prior, he was making magic with other brands. In 2016, he teamed up with retailer Villa and Timberland for a special edition boot dubbed The Gift Box with its baby blue/turquoise hybrid that absolutely does not reference a popular type of packaging and color scheme. Nobody would mistake these boots with other sneaker collabs that pull from a brand that is known for their exquisitely produced and opulently priced silverware gifts that dudes flock to and buy for their girlfriends when they mess up badly. Nope, these are standalone boots that are successful regardless of what they may or may not be referencing.

Look, it took a few decades for Nike and Tiffany to finally get over their respective hang-ups and finally team up for a collab with mixed results. And to be fair, Timberland has released a handful of turquoise-colored boots since the collab so it might just be a matter of time before we get something official.

6 - Vans x Timberland (2022)

When you operate under the same corporate umbrella like Vans and Timberland do as members of the VF brand family, is it really a collaboration in the truest sense? It’s not like a Nike and Jordan Brand collab which seems silly on its face because most people know the association, but when Vans and Timberland team up, it’s a little like cousins who are of the same age and go to the same school connect: it would be shocking if they didn’t work together. Thankfully, the result of the collab was a clever take on the work boot that Vans pulled off. The black and white checkerboard pattern on the boot would look silly with its alternating squares, but with shades of black, they maintain the integrity of the boot's rugged character. In other words, you won’t be seeing ska kids skank in these*.

*Apologies to ska kids who skank in Timbs. I haven’t been to a ska show since No Doubt was an actual ska band.

5 - Supreme x Timberland (2023)

Longtime partners Supreme and Timberland have had their share of booms and busts through the years. Their 2023 collaboration falls into the former category for their brilliant use of the embossed diamond plate pattern that anybody who is familiar with construction or steel steps in WWE would recognize. The level of detail would almost have you thinking that Supreme literally pressed each pair with the pattern before sending them out to the world. It certainly tops your standard Supreme collaboration where they just paste their name all throughout the boot’s upper and their fanbase thinks the brand is so clever when they turn the name upside down.

4 - Louis Vuitton x Timberland (2024)

Louis Vuitton x Timberland

Louis Vuitton and Timberland have been working together for decades, just in an unofficial and legally murky capacity. Not because of actions taken by either brand, but because customizers and bootleggers have been slapping the iconic LV monogram print on Timbs for as long as people have been adding replacing the Swoosh on their Air Jordan 1s with Gucci prints. In other words, Louis Vuitton and Timberland have been a long time coming and Pharrell Williams’ position as LV’s Creative Director was the catalyst to make it happen. Their four-figure price tag on resale platforms means they are going to be out of reach for most people, but they won’t have problems finding the alternatives like they have over the past three decades.

3 - Ronnie Fieg x KITH x Timberland Lavender (2016)

To say that the relationship between Ronnie Fieg and Timberland runs deep is an understatement on the level of saying Hiroshi Fujiwara and Nike are just friends. They might not work together all the time and you might even see them apart more often than together, but when they unite, people remember why they work so well. One project that stands out is a 2016 collab from KITH’s Aspen collection. Limited to only 300 pairs in each colorway except for the even more limited friends and family Lavender colorway, it’s another classic example of Fieg’s deep ties to the brand.

2 - The Notorious B.I.G. x Timberland (2024)

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the classic Notorious B.I.G. album Ready To Die, Timberland worked with the Christopher Wallace estate on a fitting tribute to Biggie’s love of Timbs. Featuring the baby (who is not Biggie) on the Ready To Die album cover etched on the boot’s tongue and a pair of hangtags (aka badoinks) that reference Biggie, the boots dropped in 2024 in classic Wheat and Black colorways with aglets that mimic auxiliary ports for plugging in amplifiers or microphones.

1 - David Z x Timberland (1998)

New York sneaker and workbook institution David Z was the place to be if you wanted to grab some fly kicks or boots back in the 90s and 2000s. Owned by David Zaken (Ronnie Fieg’s uncle), social media accounts dedicated to the New York hip-hop scene of the 90s are littered with pictures of icons like Jay Z and Foxy Brown and Mase hitting up the store to grab the latest and greatest. If Fat Joe hasn’t told a story that will make you raise your eyebrows about David Z, then someone needs to bring it up on his podcast with Jadakiss. So when the store teamed up with Timberland to re-do the boot with a grey upper, it was pandemonium.
