The DC, Maryland, Virginia metro area (DMV for short) is a cultural landscape all to its own. They’ve got their own go-go-influenced music taste, their own cuisine (shoutout Ben’s Chili Bowl), and they’ve definitely got their own slang, mo. When it comes to fashion, the DMV is known for New Balances and Nike Boots, the Air Max Goadome, to be specific.

For DMV rap icon Wale, whose latest album, everything is a lot, dropped last week, the occasion was the perfect time for a Nike collab, bringing his famed sneaker obsession to the Capitol’s favorite footwear. In an Instagram video from the collab boot’s co-designer, Pierre Edwards, we get a look at the snakeskin construction, the Wale shoelace logo hit on the heel, and the midnight blue painted internal Air unit underfoot.

In a commercial debuting the collab boot and album, we saw the friends and family pairs being packed up by rapper Smino for collaborators on the project, including Ty Dolla $ign, Shaboozey, BNYX, Odeal, and more. “We took a DMV classic and elevated it into a story you can wear,” Edwards and Wale noted on IG.
