The Comprehensive Disney Adult Sneaker Guide
PublishedQuick Facts
- Media has portrayed Disney Adults as a group anybody can dunk on
- While their interests are worlds apart, the passion Disney Adults and sneakerheads exhibit are one to one
- There’s a sneaker for every type of Disney Adult from every brand and price range
- It’s not a comprehensive list of every Disney sneaker collaboration, but it’s a great jumping off point

Possibly more than any other subculture, Disney Adults have to deal with the question, “Why??” Known for their embrace of all things Disney, especially the Disney of their childhood, their main character syndrome is replaced with a desire to be a Disneyland NPC. Like, why do they wear clothing that perfectly matches a character inside the park or why do they pretend to have genuine in-character conversations with “cast members” or why is their love of Disney their entire personality?
The rise of the term “Disney Adult” as a pejorative to describe millennials who cling to fragments of their youth created by a media conglomerate instead of growing up is funny when you consider that virtually any hobby or pursuit could replace the term and it would still make sense. Consider: Sneaker Adults. Disney Adults, like Sneakerheads, are simply people chasing a lost sense of wonder and whimsy. Whether it’s lining up for hours to go on the Peter Pan ride or camping out with fellow sneakerheads in front of Foot Locker hoping to score a hyped pair of kicks, as long as the vibes are good and you’re not getting in a kid’s way, live and let live. Just look at the joy in their eyes as they’re transported back to a better place and time.
Here is a sneaker guide to help veteran and aspiring Disney Adults alike find just the right sneaker to wear to any of the parks around the globe. Trying to match with a beloved character or just need something casual to watch the fireworks on a random summer night? There’s a sneaker for every level of dedication to the House of Mouse.
Casual Disney Adult (who still wear the sneakers outside park)
Converse Chuck Taylor Elsa (Frozen)

Arguably the most popular (and valuable) Disney property the company has created this century, the number of kids and grown-ups who have listened to “Let It Go” infinity times on Spotify can easily pull off any number of Chuck Taylor collabs featuring Princess Elsa. The clean white pair mixed with artwork from the movie blends in with any outfit you choose while running errands.
adidas Gazelle Bold Marie (The Aristocats)

Right now, there are several pink or pink-adjacent pairs of the adidas Gazelle Bold with the triple stacked sole available at an assortment of retailers. But if you want to be a cut above the rest, adidas recently released a Gazelle Bold collab celebrating the 55th anniversary of the animated classic “The Aristocats” that subtly honors Marie, one of the movie’s main characters. With a pink bow in the back and a graphic of Marie on the tongue like it was a pair of Stan Smiths, it’s not your average pink Gazelle Bold, but it’s not your obvious Disney sneaker either.
Vans Knu Skool Scar (Lion King)

Scar’s heinous actions in “The Lion King” may have you suspicious of any uncle your dad accuses of always being “up to something,” but there’s nothing heinous about this modernized Vans Knu Skool with a few light hints of its inspiration. Unless they take a look at the sneaker’s outsole, which features a huge Scar graphic on both pairs, people are just going to think your Vans have some regular scar, not actually the Scar.
New Balance 990v3 Steamboat Willie

New Balance and Disney have teamed up on a number of colorful collaborations over the years as part of the runDisney program, bringing together runners of all shapes and sizes and inviting them to run inside the park. However, if you want the quintessential New Balance sneaker in its signature greyscale mixed with a dash of Disney charm, there is no better team-up than Steamboat Willie with the Made In USA New Balance 990v3. Released in 2015, the subtle Steamboat Willie on the heel of the sneaker is hardly noticeable in comparison to other runDisney New Balance collabs.
Disney x Gucci Ace Huey, Dewey

At these prices and in this economy, wondering whether someone wearing a pair of Gucci sneakers with Uncle Scrooge’s nephews plastered on them is a Disney Adult is the last thing running through anybody’s mind. They are more likely to pocket-watch you and your decision to forgo the classic Gucci Ace style than they are to wonder if you have an autograph book with Donald Duck’s signature on it.
Disney x adidas Ultra Boost 1.0 100th Anniversary

The sneaker community’s love for the adidas Ultra Boost comes and goes in waves, but there’s no denying the impact the sneaker and its Boost technology have had on the Three Stripes. Similarly, they have successfully managed their relationship with Disney over the past decade to the point where it would be hard to imagine passing the buck to another brand to handle their biggest properties, including Marvel and Star Wars. To highlight their partnership, adidas kicked off Disney’s 100th anniversary with a celebratory Ultra Boost in a clean grey and metallic silver with light Disney 100 branding and red and black stripes to represent Mickey.
Disney x Taka Hayashi x Vans Sk8-Hi LX

As part of the 2018 celebration of the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, Vault by Vans tapped four legendary artists to bring the iconic mascot to Sk8-His. Taka Hayashi, a frequent Vans contributor, incorporated a gradient denim into his Sk8-Hi design. The result is a sneaker that pairs up nicely with blue jeans regardless of the connection to Disney.
101 Dalmatians x Givenchy City Sport High

With an all-over print featuring what appears to be all 101 Dalmatians from the movie, the blur of squiggly white lines from afar broken up by hits of red throughout the upper will have anyone who stares at these kicks wondering what exactly it is that they are looking at. Admittedly, Givenchy doesn’t have the instantly recognizable signature look and logo of a Gucci, but after they get past the Dalmatian of it all, they will acknowledge the top shelf craftsmanship of the sneaker as a cut above your average Disney sneaker.
Beauty and the Beast x ASICS Gel-Lyte III

Potentially even more controversial than Disney Adults are the recent run of live-action remakes of classic Disney animated films. Released to varying degrees of success, the one thing all Disney fans and film buffs can agree on is that these remakes have mostly been soulless cash grabs meant to heat-check your fandom. That being said, when Disney remade “Beauty and the Beast” starring Hermione from Harry Potter and Jason Statham’s brother from “The Fast and the Furious” movies, they also teamed up with ASICS for a lowkey collaboration with the Gel-Lyte III in a number of different colorways. While the Disney logo’s placement could be a dealbreaker for some, the embossed rose graphics on the upper and embroidery on the heel are nice nods to the movie.
Crocs Neria Clog Minnie Mouse

Granted, Minnie Mouse’s bow is arguably her most iconic feature, but to anybody looking at these casual Crocs dress shoe/clog hybrid, it’s a black pair of shoes with polka dots and red bow ties. They will probably need Minnie's actual face on the upper to make the connection. However, this advice does not apply to other Minnie-inspired Crocs, which are pink all over and come jam packed with Minnie-related Jibbitz.
Semi-Serious Disney Adult (trying to match a costume)
Monsters Inc. x adidas Basketball

Adidas had parents of little hoopers with a love for monsters who would rather make you laugh than spook you covered when they collaborated with the Pixar classic “Monsters Inc.” Featuring Mike and Sulley in the adidas DON Issue 3 and the adidas Dame 7 respectively, each pair was able to capture the essence of the two heroes as easily as they capture screams of laughter to help power the city of Monstropolis. Those looking for a third pair to represent the adorable kid Boo that Mike and Sulley save in the movie will be pleased to know that adidas dropped an NMD with references to her room and the costume she used to hide from the other monsters.
The Incredibles x adidas Basketball

Pixar’s first family was part of another adidas Basketball collab that saw almost all of the crew get sneakers based on their unique powers. For reasons unexplained, Violet was not included in the sneaker pack while family friend Frozone had accessories and gear. Mr. Incredible and Jack Jack received adidas Dame 8s, Elastigirl was honored with Candace Parker’s adidas Exhibit B, and Dash became the latest superhero to team-up with Donovan Mitchell (he and Spider-Man are apparently tight for some reason) on the adidas DON Issue #4.
Toy Story x adidas 25th Anniversary

As American animation slowly transitioned from hand-drawn art to computer-generated graphics in the mid-90s, Pixar was leading the way with their debut feature film, “Toy Story”. To celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary in 2020, Disney and adidas went all-out with sneakers (and even football cleats) featuring all of the main characters from the first two films. Unfortunately for Disney Adults, all of the kicks in this collection were only available in young children and toddler sizes. However, grown up fans of Woody and Buzz can still find an assortment of Vans collaborations to choose from, not to mention a Reebok collaboration we’ll be featuring later in this guide…
Alice In Wonderland x adidas Campus 80s Cheshire Cat

In spite of everyone’s assumptions and perceptions about literally everything that happens in Disney’s interpretation of Alice In Wonderland, the movie was not about substances that one may or may not partake in while experiencing the wacky world Alice was trying to escape. That being said, it takes a lot of courage to rock a Cheshire Cat costume and adidas delivered matching sneakers in the form of a Campus 80s that includes a faux-fur upper and the prankster’s mischievous grin on the heel tab.
Nike A’One 5K Princess Tiana PE
Unfortunately for fans of “Princess and the Frog” there’s probably little to no chance this A’ja Wilson player exclusive inspired by Princess Tiana will ever release considering adidas’ long-running deal with Disney, whose lawyers are always ready to pounce. However, getting a sneaker customized has never been easier, so fans shouldn’t have any trouble finding a pair of Nike A’Ones to send to their local creator who can mimic this A’ja exclusive.
Vans Old Skool 80s Mickey

Vans probably didn’t realize it at the time, but they created the perfect Disney Adult shoe with this Old Skool that hits all of the nostalgic pressure points. With Mickey art and colors directly pulled from a Saturday morning cartoon in the late 1980s when Disney Adults were simply Disney Children, the only thing missing is a banger of an opening theme whenever somebody opens the shoe box. As for a costume, just look at any episode of “Saved By The Bell” or the “Mickey Mouse Club” for inspiration.
Vans Authentic Gore Minnie Mouse

Not really sure how else you would wear these sneakers but with a Minnie Mouse costume. It almost feels disrespectful to not wear a Minnie dress to match these sneakers. The Disneyland cast members who have to wear the costume would probably feel some type of way if they saw somebody wear these sneakers with jeans or shorts… or jean shorts.
Li-Ning Wade All-City 10 Vanellope (Wreck It Ralph)

Interestingly, adidas does not have a sneaker collaboration with the “Wreck It Ralph” series. Instead, the responsibility was handed off to Chinese brand Li-Ning for the “Ralph Breaks The Internet” sequel. Through the magic of corporate synergy, Dwyane Wade technically has collaborated with Disney through his partnership with Li-Ning. Inspired by Ralph’s co-star Vanellope Von Schweetz, the Wade All-City 10 got a digital makeover to match their travels through the internet and all of the Disney-approved wackiness that’s out there.
Li-Ning Classic Canvas Hi Tigger

Disney Adults searching for a Tigger sneaker collab will have to once again turn to Li-Ning as all of the official pairs stateside so far are limited to toddler sizes. The Classic Canvas Hi is an uncommon silhouette even to sneakerheads who have followed Li-Ning for a while now, but Tigger’s classic smile and bouncy disposition are on full display here.
Snow White x ASICS Gel-Lyte

Not surprisingly, the internet is littered with pictures of Snow White fans dressed up in not only the princess’ iconic attire, but also her nemesis the Evil Queen and her buddies, the Seven Dwarves. Whether it’s one friend wearing the Snow White costume while everybody wears matching Dwarves gear or it’s a mom with seven children, it’s truly a monumental effort to put a Snow White troupe together. For their part, ASICS tried to make things a little bit easier when they released an ambitious nine sneaker pack that included two pairs of the Gel-Lyte inspired by Snow White and the Evil Queen and an astonishing seven pairs of the Gel-Lyte in kid’s sizes that represent each of the Seven Dwarves. Kudos to anybody who actually pulls this off.
Hardcore Disney Adult (who owns the $1800 annual pass, is part of a Disney Gang/Facebook Group/Private Discord, and is on first-name basis with at least five non-family Disney Cast Members)
Toy Story x BAIT x Reebok Instapump Fury

According to people who worked at BAIT at the time, they received more calls and texts asking about this collaboration than any other project they’ve ever been a part of before or since. It’s easy to see why: it’s pure Disney Adult bait. The Instapump Fury provided the perfect canvas to feature the signature elements of Woody and Buzz Lightyear in a mismatched package. It might not match up with a specific “Toy Story”-themed costume, but these are kicks that could only ever exist inside the walls of the Magic Kingdom.
runDisney x Brooks Glycerin 22 Stitch

Brooks has mastered the art of the limited Disney runner collab: release them during one of the many runDisney Half Marathons throughout the year and limit their availability to one purchase per Disney Adult racer. Meanwhile, they only make a small amount available - including leftovers from the event - on their website at a later time. These collabs don't make the same headlines as a hyped drop on the SNKRS app, but for the Disney Adults who also take their running seriously, these are among the most popular runners being worn at the park on any given day. The latest drop is a Stitch-inspired pair of the Glycerin 22 that will be available exclusively at the [checks notes] 2025 runDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend starting on October 23rd.
Mickey Mouse x Jeremy Scott x adidas JS Hi

Unlike every other sneaker in this guide, this 2010 collaboration with designer and longtime partner Jeremy Scott is actually part of Disney lore. In 2011, Disneyland debuted a new parade called Soundsational that featured Mickey leading a drumline of talented kids on the sticks. As part of their costume, the drummers wore the Disney JS Hi, and any sneakerhead who braved sweltering heat to secure a good spot at these parades likely checked online to see if they were still available. Spoiler: they were not.
Crocs Fuzzy Clog Lotso (Toy Story 3)

Despite being one of the most deceitful and coldest villains in all of Disney and Pixar, Lotso from “Toy Story 3” is revered by the fandom and is often part of “Toy Story” collaborations with stores like blind box specialists MINISO and Pop Mart. His adorable exterior belies a cruel heart that was forged by a child’s betrayal, but none of that matters because everybody thinks he looks so damn cute on a bunny slipper or in the case of this collab with Crocs, a Fuzzy Clog.
adidas adiZero Electric Cleats Jafar

So what exactly does “Aladdin” villain Jafar have to do with football? Not much, but his snake-like movements and behavior apparently made him the ideal candidate for cleats as his signature snake staff can be found on the tongue of the gold-colored adiZero Electric cleats. Considering their cleated form, it’s going to be hard to convince security these can be worn inside Disneyland, so hold out hope adidas makes a street ready version with the studs covered in a TPU shell like the recently revealed adidas Adiframe F50.
Air Jordan 8 Blizzard (Frozen)

Released in between the two “Frozen” films that have likely earned Disney billions upon billions of dollars in merch and ticket sales, there’s no explicit homage or nod to the adventures of Queen Anna and Princess Elsa in these snow-powered Air Jordan 8s. However, the color scheme and snowflake graphics on the upper do have plenty of qualities that a fan of the sisters would be looking for in their sneakers.
Nike SB Dunk Jedi (Star Wars)

There’s no shortage of officially licensed “Star Wars” sneakers and clogs by adidas and Crocs. However, one of the most sought after sneaker homages to a galaxy far far away is courtesy of Nike SB. Unofficially, of course. The Nike SB Dunk Low Jedi from 2004 is a clear nod to everybody’s favorite Jedi Master and bearer of sage wisdom, Yoda. Featuring a brown upper with green overlays, vibrant volt laces likely represented Yoda’s lightsaber and really put them over the top. Considering their rarity, age, and price tag, these are not the sneakers any old sneakerhead might want. A hardcore Disney Adult with money to burn, though? Believe in their disposable income, a reseller must.
Air Jordan 1 Next Chapter (Spider-Man)

A relatively new tenant at California Adventure, Marvel has slowly made their presence felt at the park with an ever-expanding area of attractions to meet members of the MCU. While the Air Jordan 1 Next Chapter is referencing alternate universe Spider-Man Miles Morales, the kicks would feel right at home amidst the dozens of people who consistently line up to get some facetime with everybody’s Friendly Neighborhood Spidey.
adidas x Tron Ares Collection

Just kidding. The box office of this latest attempt to revive TRON appears to be so bad that adidas is already offering the sneaker tie-in on sale. Not even a budget-conscious Disney Adult should even dare pick these up.
