Did Angel sellout?

Big day for Reebok fans yesterday, especially those looking for a deal on brand new signature sneakers. The internet went wild for Angel Reese on Thursday when news broke that a 3-pack of her new Reebok Angel Reese 1s had sold out online. The three colorways, dubbed Diamond Dust, Mebounds, and Receipts Ready, all released and eventually sold out yesterday, but did Reebok juice the stats a little?

As more and more Bok Boys and Girls had their own receipts ready and posted them online, we started to notice something strange. The AR1s were on sale—on day one. Seems like fans had their coupon codes ready, too.

Numerous accounts on Twitter were sharing a MOVE15 coupon code that apparently worked on Reebok’s website. If you moved quickly, you got 15% off the Queen of Mebound’s brand new signature sneaker, saving you almost $20 per pair and nearly $60 on the 3-pack. This kind of deal was too hard to pass up for sneaker shoppers, who quickly snatched up all available sizes of the Chicago Sky forward’s first signature shoe. We hope they’re all going to wear them proudly as they strive for their local rec league’s rebound record.

Now listen, we love what’s happening in the W and we’re obsessed with all of the new signature sneakers we’re seeing from top players in the game. But we were all set on these, and judging by the fact Reebok put them on sale on launch day, the brand was expecting you to skip them as well.

We think they should have given her more of a chance to prove herself out there. She holds her own on the court and has achieved a lot, so why couldn’t she do the same in the sneaker game? That’s what we’d ask Reebok, plus maybe why they priced it higher than the smash hit A’Ones ($115) from Nike’s A’ja Wilson, just to then discount them as soon as they released? Makes no sense, which for Reebok, I guess does make sense. They’re just Shaq’tin a Fool sometimes.
