Every Nike LeBron 23 Colorway Story Explained

Long before Nike crowned LeBron James “The King” (even if he had this nickname for years already) in the lead-up to the launch of the LeBron 23 last year, LBJ was making history with every action on and off the court. LeBron’s lore runs deep. He “invented” the deluxe album with 2 Chainz, he’s still on page one of that Malcom X book, he wished Jeanie Buss “happy international women’s day,” he picked up the pen and drew Bart Simpson wearing Off-White. We could go on and on, but these are more memeable moments from his illustrious career.

Instead of looking to these kinds of viral moments to commemorate The King, Nike looked back at his entire career as a superstar, even before he entered the league, and pulled stories and moments that define the legacy of LeBron James the athlete for 23 colorways on the Nike LeBron 23. We’re still a few weeks away from the final pair hitting shelves, but now that all 23 colorways have been seen, let's go over the story for each pair.

Side note. Nike does plan to drop a few more LeBron 23 colorways that are not part of this story-focused collection, and they released a special pair for All-Star Weekend, but we’re only talking about the main 23 pairs Nike has marketed under this storyline banner.

Nike LeBron 23 Uncharted - 10/03/2025

The debut colorway of the LeBron 23 was inspired by LeBron James becoming the first player to reach 40,000 career points in the regular season.

LeBron became the first player in NBA history to play with his son, Bronny, and Nike created this special colorway of the LeBron 23 to honor the two.

LeBron and Dwyane Wade created one of the most iconic photos when D-Wade lobbed an alley-oop to Bron, and this LeBron 23 Heat Wave is directly inspired by this moment.

Nike LeBron 23 Green With Envy - 01/16/2026

At first glance, the LeBron 23 Green With Envy may not seem like a shoe connected to LeBron James and the Heat ending the Celtics’ run in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2012. The homage is kind of a stretch, but the purple shirt James wore in the tunnel inspired the color, while the water droplets are inspired by a fan pouring a beer on him in the tunnel.

Those blue doors reside at the Lorraine Motel, the site where Dr. King was tragically assassinated, and online outcry caused Nike to cancel the release in the States, though it did have scattered drops across the globe.
