Converse Takes Shots at Anthony Edwards and adidas with New Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Advertisement

The Western Conference Finals have concluded, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder are headed to the NBA Finals. The series wasn’t as hard-fought as we all hoped it would be, as the Minnesota Timberwolves lost 4-1 and were blown out in most of the games. Shortly after the final buzzer sounded, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s partners at Converse dropped an advertisement taking shots at Anthony Edwards and adidas.
In the ad spot, we see an ant crawling across sand that features a footprint of the Converse Shai 001, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s upcoming signature sneaker with the brand. The words “Nothing Left 2 Say? Unbelievable” quickly flash on the screen before a quick transition to Shai’s signature logo. Converse is quite obviously poking fun at Anthony Edwards’ tagline for his first signature sneaker, the adidas AE 1, Believe That, with the text.
Converse takes shots at @theantedwards_ & @adidasHoops 😳😳😳😳😳 Believe that
Before this, it had been adidas who were taking shots at other footwear brands and athletes as Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves made their way through the early parts of the NBA playoffs. Ant was dubbed “The King Slayer” by adidas after the team’s victory over LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
adidas had run multiple ads and campaigns for the adidas AE 1 that poked fun at other signature models early on in the sneaker’s lifecycle. Most famously, one of the debut ads sees Ant directly speak ill of other athletes’ first sneakers.

As for Converse and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, they’ve been using the attention around the NBA postseason and SGA’s recent MVP award as a means to debut new colorways of the Shai 001. This includes pairs like the Hail Clay, made in honor of SGA’s wife Hailey, the Charm Black, inspired by his mother, and the Ares Grey, inspired by his son.
