A common tactic in just about any industry is to drop a high-end product and then offer consumers a much more reasonably priced and accessible version of the same thing. That’s been a thing in the sneaker industry for years, with performance models almost always having a distant cousin that can be bought for a lower price. For adidas, they’re employing this tactic with the adidas Adistar XLG 2.0, aka the adidas Squid, a takedown of Pharrell Williams’ adidas Adistar Jellyfish.

While Pharrell’s Jellyfish adidas sneaker is priced at $300, is ultra-limited, and sells out virtually in seconds, the Adistar XLG 2.0 Squid is meant to be a widely available version of the sneaker. We first saw the takedown model last year, with a small rollout in Europe taking place in the latter months of 2025. However, the US and the rest of the globe will have a chance at a range of adidas Squid colorways in February 2026.

Both sneakers use a similar enlarged sole unit that features Adiprene cushioning, but the uppers are where things change. Yes, they have a similar shape, but the paneling is much different, with the Jellyfish utilizing protruding 3D overlays. The plastic overlays on the Squid come similarly shaped, but don't protrude as much off the uppers. They both share similar overlays on the heel and toe and a lacing system, but branding is obviously going to change between the two sneakers. Honestly, they’re close enough that if you walk fast, people may not be able to tell the difference.

Where to Buy the adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 Squid

The adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 Squid will be released on February 5, 2026 via select retailers across the globe. This includes big box retailers like Foot Locker, Champs, JD Sports, and more localized shops like Shiekh. So far, we know three different colorways of the adidas Squid will be released on the 5th, including a White Orange pair that looks like the original Jellyfish, a greyscale variant, and a black and silver version. Retail for the Adistar XLG 2.0 Squid is set at $150 in adult sizes.
