LeBron James and Jason Petrie continued to build around the hexagon Zoom Air units in 2014’s Nike LeBron 13 (XIII), but they focused on cutting down the unnecessary fat from the previous model. Launched in 2015, the Nike LeBron 13 was built for explosiveness and speed, encapsulating LeBron's forceful playing style. Designed by Jason Petrie, this model highlighted advancements in both lockdown support and cushioning, allowing quick transitions and hard landings.
The LeBron 13 featured a breathable mesh upper with integrated Hyperposite material for lightweight support and dynamic Flywire cables for adaptive fit. The most significant innovation was the incorporation of Hexagonal Nike Zoom Air units that offered excellent impact protection and quick responses. This was the first time a LeBron shoe incorporated this Zoom Air setup, resulting in a more fine-tuned cushioning experience.
Notable colorways included the 'Written in the Stars' with a deep purple upper and multicolored speckle detailing, and the 'BHM' edition that celebrated Black History Month with intricate tribal patterns. The 'Friday the 13th' colorway was a unique, playful rendition, featuring a white and red color scheme and blood splatter graphics. Each of these colorways encapsulated LeBron’s life journey, from his roots to his ethos.
