The Air Jordan 40 Does Its Best Jordan 6 Infrared Impression for NBA All-Star Weekend

NBA All-Star weekend brings out the heavy hitters in the sneaker world, especially from Nike and Jordan Brand. Every February we get a slew of special colors to commemorate the occasion alongside high-heat retros and collabs. While the full lineup hasn’t been revealed yet, Sole Retriever can confirm that the Jordan 40 will get an Infrared colorway for the All-Star festivities.

Continuing its cosplay of other Jordan models/colorways, as seen with the Jordan 4023 and 4016 and the Chicago and Bordeaux colorways, the Infrared Jordan 40 is a clear reference to the Air Jordan 6 Infrared. Just like its 34-year-old cousin, the Jordan 40 Infrared features a blacked-out upper, with infrared accents appearing on select details. This includes the tongue tag and parts of the sole unit. Internally, the sneaker features ZoomX and Zoom Strobel cushioning, a significant upgrade from the AJ 6’s polyurethane and Air-cushioned midsole.

It’s actually quite fitting that Jordan Brand has cooked up an Infrared colorway of the Air Jordan 40, as in Spring 2026, the label is dropping the famed Reverse Infrared Air Jordan 6. If you don’t know the story, when Jordan was prepping to retro the Air Jordan 6 for the first time in the year 2000, there were multiple sample colorways produced, including a new version of the Infrared colorway that we now refer to as the Reverse Infrared. The pair was never released to the public, but we’ll have a shot in a few months to finally own this grail.

The Air Jordan 40 Infrared will be released around NBA All-Star Weekend in February 2025 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store.
