While sneakerheads basically ignore any Air Jordan past the Air Jordan 14 (save for a handful of models after MJ’s run with the Chicago Bulls), Jordan Brand has continually introduced new numerical Jordans for performance basketball use. Looking through this lens, the last half-decade of Air Jordans has been a bit… lackluster. However, the recently introduced Air Jordan 40 finally hit all the points to be successful both on and off the court, with the debut The Classic colorway selling out instantly. Next up for the sneaker is a colorway that pays homage to where Air Jordans began.
Other Air Jordan 40s previewed thus far, including the Blue Suede and Dusty Rose colorways, have refrained from any overt branding for Nike and Jordan Brand, but this Air Jordan 1-inspired colorway adds in a detail that was first spotted on Chris Paul’s Elite Camp PE, a Nike Swoosh. Unlike CP3’s floral-coated logo, this AJ 40 uses a sail-shaded tumbled leather for its logo. The rest of the upper comes coated in a similar sail leather, accented by black details on the laces, stark white on the tongue, and pops of red on the Nike Air woven tongue label, directly pulled from the Jordan 1.
