2001 was a wild year for Michael Jordan. The new millennium was supposed to be the transition from player to executive for MJ, with a new role in the Wizards front office inspiring the suited up styling of the Air Jordan 16. When the pre-season rolled around, though, Jordan wasn’t content kicking his feet up in the office, so he strapped on some 16s and put on a Wizards uniform, joining the squad for what would become his final few years on the court.
The Air Jordan is on its 40th model now, and Jordan isn’t making his way from the Hornets suite to the scorers' table anytime soon, but the latest colorway of the Jordan 40 returns to that 2001 season, reimagining the newest numbered Jordan as a 16, complete with pebbled leather and a tongue shield. In addition to the 16-style remix, Jordan is giving the 40 an Air Jordan 23-inspired colorway as well.
Air Jordan 4016
The Air Jordan 4016 puts a blue and white patent leather Halloween costume on the Jordan 40 silhouette, doing a pretty convincing Jordan 16 impression. Starting with a shiny blue patent leather toe with a white leather upper and blue mesh side panels, the star of the show is the removable white leather lace cover that brings the real 16 vibes. A white midsole with a navy stripe down the middle and an icy blue sole completes the referential look. If it looks familiar to you, you’ve got a great eye. The colorway mimics the original White Midnight Navy pair that was released in March 2001.
The Air Jordan 4016 will be released Holiday 2025 through Nike and select Jordan retailers in-store and online. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $200. For all the latest Jordan news and drop info, don’t forget to download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
