After criticism from Mexican officials, including members of the Oaxaca government and even the country’s president, for alleged cultural appropriation, Chavarria issued a public apology, entered discussions with local authorities, and pledged support through Mexico’s Ministry of Culture. The silhouette has since been renamed, signaling a reset and a more respectful approach to its inspirations.
While you might be familiar with the Nike Air Huarache, the adidas Huarache is an entirely different beast. This new silhouette takes cues from traditional Mexican weaving techniques, blending artisanal craftsmanship with Chavarria’s signature sculptural minimalism. The debut Core Black edition features an intricately woven upper crafted from premium tumbled leather, delivering texture, structure, and breathability all at once.
