It was nearly two years ago that we got our first look at Devin Booker’s debut signature sneaker with Nike, the Nike Book 1, and the first chapter is in its final paragraphs. Devin wearing blacked-out weartest samples of the Nike Book 2 while practicing with Chris Brickley all but pointed to the finale of the Book 1 being close. Well, that alongside confirmation that the silhouette would debut Spring 2026. Before Devin and Nike turn the page to Chapter Two of the Nike Book story, Devin just teased us with a What The version of the Book 1.
If for some reason you’re not familiar with the “What The” concept, it’s essentially a mashup colorway that combines details from previous releases. It was popularized with the Nike SB Dunk Low What The, but the theme has extended across dozens of models since then, especially in the world of Nike Basketball.

Booker has around 30 different colorways of his first signature sneaker to choose from for his Nike Book 1 What The, applying a mismatched design as to allow for maximum homages. It’s a long list to go through, but let’s start with the left shoe, which features the safari print on the mudguard (Nike Book 1 Safari), gold suede on the toe (Chevy x Nike Book 1), a red topography map on the midfoot (Book 1 Sedona) green faux reptile skin on the eyestay (Book 1 The Hike), a Cortez-inspired heel tab (Book 1 Forrest Gump), overstitching on the Swoosh (Book 1 Halloween), blue and orange laces (Book 1 ‘95 All-Star), “No Sir” text on the lateral heel (Book 1 Moss Point), and finally a sail midsole with the outsole from the Book 1 Sunset. The pair also introduces a new scorpion graphic around the collar, potentially from an unseen colorway.

Now onto the right shoe, which features denim on the toebox (Book 1 Blue Blood), green topographic print on the mudguard (Book 1 Flagstaff), orange scales on the eyestay (Book 1 Clay Orange), snakeskin on the midfoot (Book 1 Python), a lenticular rainbow on the collar (Book 1 Night), camo on the tongue (Book 1 Desert Camo), the number 1 embroidered on the heel (Book 1 CHBL), a speckled midsole (Book 1 Mowabb), and a gradient outsole (Book 1 Sunrise). The pair also features a tag “1 of 1996,” which was also found on the Book 1 Black Label.
As of this writing, the Nike Book 1 What The is not confirmed to release, but it’s possible the pair may hit shelves ahead of the Nike Book 2’s debut in Spring 2026.
