New Balance broke the formal footwear and sportstyle sneaker hybrids barrier when they launched the 1906L Loafer in September 2024. Since then, the formula of combining mesh runner and athleisure design languages with traditional dress sneakers has become an inescapable trend, with every brand big and small launching their own “snoafer” hybrid. While New Balance has been steadily launching inline variants of the 1906L, the Boston-based brand has tapped Danish women's label Ganni for a project on the loafer.
We’ve seen an outside partner work on the 1906L in the past, though it has just been reserved for high fashion designer Junya Watanabe, who kept his signature monochrome and minimal design language intact on the sneaker. Ganni on the other hand brings a loud look to the 1906L thanks to the yellow faux snakeskin applied to the toebox and tongue. Contrasting this are black and silver patent leather panels on the forefoot strap, triangular overlays, and a silver TPU lattice heel counter. Dual pull-tabs on the heel, a feature found on many of Ganni’s projects with NB, come in black and yellow. Finishing the design is the black and yellow 1906 foam midsole and outsole, and a co-branded Ganni and New Balance insole.

As mentioned above, Ganni and NB are no strangers to one another. They first partnered on two colorways of the 2002R in 2022, following this up with two colorways of the traditional 1906R (one of which Taylor Swift even wore). Finally, the duo launched a clean T500 and two Fresh Foam Trainers in 2024.
The Ganni x New Balance 1906L Loafer will release September 24, 2025 via Ganni online and in-store. Available in women’s sizing, the retail price has not yet been announced.
