Asics' success in the sneaker world over the last two years is the perfect case study on how to turn your image around. The general public and most sneakerheads have long viewed the Japanese footwear brand as uncool. Still, timely collaborations, perfectly executed release strategies, and a little luck have resulted in the brand's recent bull run. Now, US retailer Sneaker Politics is teasing an exclusive SMU release of the Gel-Kayano 14.
Teased via the retailer's Instagram, the campaign for this exclusive Asics Gel-Kayano 14 is centered around the phrase "Just Say No," a clear homage to the old Nancy Reagan campaign centered around drugs in the '80s. In the newspaper in the photo, the article essentially boils down to how we, as sneakerheads, can say no to buying sneakers. Not blindly following the trends or hype around a particular model helps protect our styles and values, making us all more responsible sneaker consumers.
As for the sneaker itself, the Kayano 14, which was originally released in 2008 as a performance runner, comes in a clean combo of cream, metallic silver, gold, black, and red. Cream mesh on the base and metallic silver overlays on the toe, toebox, and eyestays contrast the black and gold found on the midfoot Tiger Stripes. Final details include the red heel overlay, tongue badging, cream midsole, and black, red, and cream outsole.
This upcoming Sneaker Politics-Exclusive Asics Gel-Kayano 14 will release on March 8, 2025, through Sneaker Politics in-store. Any remaining pairs will be available online on March 10.
