The adidas Superstar was made famous by superstars. There is a great story about Run-DMC showing German adidas execs just how powerful street culture was when the Queens rappers commanded an arena full of fans to put their Three Stripes in the air and saw a sea of Shell Toes reaching for the sky. Now, amidst a push to bring the Superstar back to prominence, adidas is tapping back into the rap scene, this time via Texas emcee and singer Teezo Touchdown.

In a new promo commercial, Teezo discusses what it takes to make a superstar, on stage and on foot, from style, community, local roots, to daring leaps of faith. As Teezo talks us through his rise to stardom, a shadow descends, and we get the first look at a super-sized preview of his first sneaker collab, a white Shell Toe with black stripes drenched in long, flowing hair like the hooves of the ponies in Budweiser commercials.

Everything is bigger in Texas, so it’s no surprise to see Teezo give us an exaggerated step with the first look at the new shoe. At the end of the commercial, Teezo notes that this is his first shoe, while elongating the “fur” half of the word. The Three Stripes have been using the Superstar for a lot of firsts lately, bringing out the iconic silhouette for first-time collabs with streetwear brands Hellstar, Sp5der, Dios, and Menace.

The Teezo Touchdown x adidas Superstar doesn’t have a release date just yet, but at the end of the preview commercial for the pair, adidas added a 1/100 graphic, suggesting these might be extremely exclusive.
