After teaming up with cosmetics brand NARS back in 2019, artist and designer Connor Tingley now has his sights set on Vans with the upcoming Connor Tingley x Vault By Vans Collection. Marking his first collaboration with the Anaheim-based skatewear company, the process of creating this project began all the way back in 2020, and after two years of research and design, the hotly anticipated pack has finally arrived.
Unveiling the Authentic in two colorways, the first pair is painted in a blue and white palette, while the second one, which is a Dover Street Market exclusive, opts for black and white. Giving the iconic checkered pattern an artistic rework, this motif has been used on Vans sneakers since the '70s and was made popular by Los Angeles youth culture. Here, Tingley has redrawn it in a ballpoint pen-like fashion. Rough lines and sketches make their way throughout the canvas upper, with ink leaking down towards the vulcanized rubber midsole for maximum impact. Imperfectly perfect, this unique design communicates a new idea of acceptance by noticing details and unique qualities in both people and places. It also pays homage to Vans, who accepted Connor and his friends with zero judgment and zero regrets.
The Connor Tingley x Vault By Vans Collection will release on October 22nd, 2022 in men's sizes. A retail price has yet TBA, but you'll be able to secure your pair at Vans and select stockists online and in physical locations. As mentioned before, the "Black White" will only be available via Dover Street Market.
