While many point to the mid-to-late ‘90s as the golden age of Nike Basketball, there were plenty of bangers to come from the oughts. One of these is the Air Zoom Huarache 2K4, a sneaker Nike is finally bringing back from the vault after its last retro run a decade ago. Joining a slew of other renditions, like Sue Bird’s PE, the original All-Star pair worn by Kobe Bryant, and a stealthy triple black variant, is Penny Hardaway’s Knicks PE.
The Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 was designed by the legendary Eric Avar, who is responsible for many Nike Kobe designs and other iconic Nike sneakers like the Foamposite, Gary Payton’s The Glove, and more. Avar took inspiration from the Air Force 1 and infused it with elements from the Air Flight Huarache, which he designed alongside Tinker Hatfield. A ton of Nike athletes in 2004 and the early parts of 2005 rocked the sneaker, including Penny Hardaway, who was a member of the New York Knicks at this time.

Penny’s Zoom Huarache 2K4 was not only done in the black, blue, and orange rendition pictured here, but also a home-friendly white variant. However, we expect the 2026 release of this player-exclusive to come identical to the black version Penny laced up in the 2004-05 NBA season. The sneaker itself comes with a primarily black nubuck upper and is accented by Knicks blue and orange on the patent leather mudguard and Swoosh, the TPU heel counter, and the sole unit.
Penny Hardaway’s Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 PE will be released Fall 2026 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $200.
