The World Cup kicks off today. After months of build-up bolstered by endless hype from the sneaker industry, the sporting world’s biggest tournament is finally getting underway across the US, Mexico, and Canada. But no matter how many pairs we’ve seen, the World Cup sneaker drops definitely aren’t done yet. Adding another adidas collab to the mix, PJ Tucker’s The Better Generation boutique teamed up with designer Andu.C for a Predator Sala ready to run through mud, grass, and everything in between.
The better+ x Andu.C x adidas Predator Sala Grassroots takes the term to its logical conclusion, adding dirty brown and green grass to the indoor soccer shoe, with a grey base and brown stitching across the upper. “Fútbol…The most recognized sport around the globe,” better+ wrote in marketing material for the collab. “From makeshift dirt fields to rooftops + stadiums, it’s a sport that unites all walks of life. One that requires a different level of dedication, persistence, + unity.”
From the ground up, the pair starts with a brown outsole to represent dirt and switches to a grey base with brown quilted stitching like a soccer ball being kicked, while the top adds fuzzy green grass paneling on the fold-over tongue, sockliner, and laces to represent a grass soccer field. Each pair comes with a custom box made to look like a soccer pitch, along with different numbers of custom metal pins sold in different tier levels, with 2 pins for Tier 1 packs, 6 pins for Tier 2, and a complete set of 26 for Tier 3.
