Salehe Bembury is a made man in the sneaker industry. From his work with Yeezy to reimaging the foam slip-on game at Crocs, classic New Balances, and his upcoming independent sneaker project Be a Spunge, Bembury brings an out-of-the-box, into-the-woods creativity that was previously missing from the game.
When Puma made a deal with Bembury as a design partner, the German sportswear giant announced that he would design the next signature basketball model. We now know that this was for Indiana Pacers superstar Tyrese Haliburton, but Salehe was also cooking up something himself
We first saw a preview of the Puma Velum SB Nitro at the beginning of the year, and after early release pairs in orange trickled out at a Paris pop-up and through Kith in June, Bembury took to Instagram this week to announce an official drop later this month. The Velum SB Nitro runner is a mesh performance shoe with a stacked midsole featuring Bembury’s 3D textured fingerprint motif on the heel, structured webbing mimicking the velum membrane found on invertebrates across the upper, and a crumbling stripe logo on the side.
If Bembury’s Instagram is any indication, the colorways dropping on his site are the same orange pair that dropped early, plus the initial pair we saw in January, featuring a pale green upper, a dark green stripe, and a bright blue midsole.
