While you’re likely to find Paul George included in TikTok videos with the song “Outstanding” by The Gap Band (iykyk) playing in the background, the NBA legend deserves more respect. You can meme on the fact that he’s past his prime, but when he was hot, he was one of the best players in the game. Nike recognized his impact, giving George his own signature sneaker line that ran from 2017 to 2022. Fans of the Nike PG series are in for a treat next year as we previously reported on the return of the Nike PG 1. Joining the Flip The Switch and White Ice renditions is another OG colorway that uses the classic combo of black with gum bottoms.

The PG 1 Black Gum keeps things stealthy throughout its design as it’s coated entirely in black across its upper. This hue lands on the engineered mesh on the toe, lockdown strap, and tongue. Synthetic suede covers the back half of the upper, broken up by the matte Swoosh. Other branding details include PG’s logo on the tongue and his number 13 (he’s number 8 now since the 76ers have the number retired) on the heel. Down below sits a Zoom Air and Phylon-cushioned midsole also murdered out in black. The only break from the all-black look comes from the gum used on the outsole.

Nike has moved on from PG since he’s in the twilight years of his career, but it’s nice to see that his original sneaker is making a comeback. Many look at the PG 1 as one of the best hoop shoes to come from the late 2010s era of Nike Basketball, and hopefully this is the start of more retro releases from the PG line.

The Nike PG 1 Black Gum will be released Spring 2026 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be revealed.
