The NCAA basketball season is always a mad dash for March, but for sneakerheads, a different kind of competition has emerged during the early season, and it has nothing to do with conferences. From the time students arrive on campus for pre-season practices, shoe sponsors begin sending out team-edition sneakers, launching an annual arms race for the coolest colorways and exclusive silhouettes. This year, Duke has once again emerged at the top of the sneaker pile, and Nike is still sending tracking numbers to the Blue Devils’ equipment manager.
The latest Duke Basketball PE is a Nike Sabrina 3 made exclusively for the women’s team— sorry, Boozer twins. Drenched in a full coat of black across the engineered mesh and thick stitched support upper, the side panel Swooshes are shiny, diamond-plated Duke Blue to match the blue Duke “D” logo on the tongue.
In addition to the new Sabrina 3s, Duke players have already shown off three colorways of Kobe 5 Protro PEs and a pair of exclusive KD 18s in the same black with shimmering blue accents and Duke branding. So far this season, this is the first team PE we’ve seen on the Sabrina 3, but the mascot at Ionescu’s alma mater, the University of Oregon Duck, did design a green colorway to stoke the crowd in.
Like most college team PEs, the Duke x Nike Sabrina 3 PE won’t be released to the public, so unless you’ve got a connection with the Lady Blue Devils, it’s best to look at this colorway with admiration, not desire. For all the latest NCAA PE sneaker news, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
