Sometimes, a retro sneaker run brings out some unexpected heat from a bygone era. As Nike continues to bring back its Y2K-era basketball shoe vibes with new silhouettes based on Foams and a steady retro run of Hyperflights, Foamposites, and Huarache 2K4s, the Huarache push has been highlighted by two colorways that never saw shelves during the shoe’s original 2004 run.

A Birdy PE Flying Back from the Past

The Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4 Sue Bird PE was made for the WNBA star during her early days with the Seattle Storm, featuring a white, green, and yellow colorway based on a Storm jersey. Starting with a green toe with a yellow border, the base of the shoe adds white leather, before returning to a matching green panel on the heel. A yellow midsole brings it together, while “BIRDY” on the lateral ankle lets you know just whose shoe it is.

In addition to the colorway that Bird wore during Seattle’s 2004 championship run and was immortalized in gold on her statue outside the Storm’s stadium, Nike is bringing back one more 2K4 PE this Fall. Arriving right on time for the Finals, Penny Hardaway’s Huarache 2K4 Knicks PE features a black, orange, and blue colorway that is sure to sell out immediately in the five boroughs later this year.
