Nike International Running Pack Pays Homage to Classic 1970s Colorways

They didn’t have stacks like these in the 70s. Nike is leaning on its legacy of performance runners ahead of next month’s track and field championship in Tokyo, dropping four colorways of contemporary running classics in colorways mimicking the most famous cutting-edge racers of the 1970s.

Dubbed the International Running Pack, the collection consists of four shoes: Vaporfly 4, Alphafly 3, Pegasus 41, and Vomero 18. The pack was inspired by Japanese run clubs and their love for vintage sneakers, nodding to history while bringing runners contemporary cushion and stability.

The Vaporfly 4 takes its colorway from legendary runner Steve Prefontaine's blue and red Pre Montreal racing spike, named for its development before the 1976 Montreal Olympics. The Alphafly 3 fast-forwards two years to The Sting, mixing sublime shades of orange and green. The Pegasus 41 is also draped in green, taking after the classic waffle racer, while the Vomero 18 in gold and red finds inspiration from the LD-1000, Nike’s OG long-distance trainer.

“Our goal in designing the Nike International Running Pack was to represent the deep relationship between Nike and Japan, dating back to our first years as a brand,” says Katsunobu Asayama, lead designer of the footwear collection.

He continued, “We wanted to meet Japanese runners’ appreciation for vintage styles by looking into our archive and applying some of our classic designs to modern Nike Running silhouettes — bringing that vintage look the community loves to our latest footwear innovations.”

The Nike International Running Pack will be released first at the Union Running Dept. by Nike in Tokyo on August 30, 2025, with a Japan-wide launch on September 5, 2025, and a global drop through select Nike retailers online and in-store September 10, 2025.

Available in men’s sizes, retail prices for the pack are set at $270 for the Vaporfly 4, $305 for the Alphafly 3, $150 for the Pegasus 41, and $170 for the Vomero 18.
