Joe Freshgoods might be the best New Balance collaborator of the modern era. Sure, there are plenty of arguments for Action Bronson, Kith, ALD, and more, but the stories brought to life on Joe Freshgoods collabs not only harken back to his Chicago adolescence but also do an incredible job at resonating with all of us and our own coming-of-age experiences.
The latest Joe Freshgoods x New Balance sneakers takes on the 2010 silhouette in a pack that he calls Hand Me Downs and Bag Lady, trading the bright suede from past collabs for a layered fabric design. Taking on two shoes, one in black and one in tan, both with overlays of frayed wool fabric in a blue and tan plaid.

On the tan pair, rough-edged blue and tan fabric covers the toe and support panels across the side panels and heel, with an additional hit on the tongue. The rest of the upper is covered in tan mesh and leather, with a midsole done in pale yellow, with brighter yellow on the visible ABZORB pods in the heel.
The black pair keeps the same general concept, but trades the tan mesh and leather support panels for black. Each pair comes with a handful of fuzzy, colorful laces, and a chain that can be attached across the entire upper, complete with JFG charms hanging down.
Joe and his team are linking up with the Patta squad for an activation at ComplexCon this weekend, but there are also rumors that the New Balance 2010 collab could be on the convention’s menu of exclusive drops. Keep it locked on the Sole Retriever mobile app to be the first to find out when these pairs release.
