Best Jackie Robinson Nike Sneakers

Opening Day 1947, on April 15, Jackie Robinson made his first MLB appearance. That fateful day is forever remembered by Major League Baseball, the sports world, and beyond, as the color barrier in America’s pastime was broken. Celebrations by the league officially began in 2004, and since then, every player wears Robinson’s number 42 on April 15.

Not only do we celebrate this moment on the field, but off it as well, with Nike continually dropping sneakers and apparel to commemorate the life and legacy of Jackie. We can trace the first Jackie Robinson Nike sneaker back to Ken Griffey Jr., who had a sample version of a cleated Griffey Max 2 made in 1997 to commemorate Jackie Robinson. But the public first had a chance at copping Jackie Robinson shoes in 2009 with a three-pack of Blazer Highs.

Fast forward to 2026, and there have been a ton of different Jackie Robinson tributes from The Swoosh. As we celebrate Jackie Robinson Day once more, let's take a look back at the best sneakers from Nike that pay homage to the man who changed sports in America forever and would later go on to champion more civil rights causes throughout his life.

Nike Blazer High Jackie Robinson Pack - 2009

Let’s start with the earliest publicly available Nike Jackie Robinson shoe. In 2009, The Swoosh dropped three different Blazer High colorways to commemorate number 42. One pair comes in a Brooklyn Dodgers-friendly makeup of blue and white, another in black and white, and finally a red and white color scheme. All three featured Brooklyn text in the Dodgers classic font, while debossed details for Jackie are found on the upper.

Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Jackie Robinson - 2021

There were a few other Jackie Robinson tributes between 2009 and 2021, but following this Air Griffey Max 1, the celebration became a yearly occurrence. The understated colorway is done in black and white, with Robinson’s number 42 replacing Griffey’s 24 that sits on the end of the strap. A debossed quote from Jackie is found on the strap and medial side, “There’s not an American in this country free until every one of us is free.”

Nike Dunk Low Jackie Robinson - 2022

The next year, Nike decided to use what was at the time the hottest silhouette on the market, the Dunk Low, for its homage to number 42 on the 75th anniversary of his Major League debut. His number is displayed on the lateral heel of the Brooklyn Dodgers-friendly blue and cream color scheme, with the quote “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me. All I ask is that you respect me as a human being” written across the paneling.

Air Jordan 5 Retro MCS Jackie Robinson PE - 2023

Unfortunately for the public, this Air Jordan 5 MCS Cleat celebrating Robinson was exclusively made for MLB athletes signed to Jordan Brand. The upper is covered in ripstop material just like the Virgil Abloh-designed Off-White Jordan 5, with Robinson’s number 42 peeking through the side netting. A PSA-style grading tag is found on the heel, featuring Jumpman branding, Robinson’s number, the date he made his MLB debut, and a QR code that will search “JACKIE ROBINSON” on Google when scanned.

Nike Air Force 1 Low Jackie Robinson - 2023

Another Brooklyn Dodgers-friendly color scheme was applied to Nike’s Jackie Robinson sneaker in 2023, an Air Force 1 Low. Number 42 is embroidered in red on the lateral heel, while the Dodgers’ “B” logo is found on the top of the tongue. Golden lace dubraes span the years that Robinson played in the Majors, 1947-1956, and the laces house the phrase “Change the world.”

In 2024, Nike revived the original build of the Air Max 1 with its “big bubble” tooling and used the retro model to celebrate Jackie. No surprise, the color palette fits right in with a vintage Brooklyn Dodgers uni, with the pair featuring his number 42 on a diamond-shaped patch on the tongue and a golden Swoosh-laden lace dubrae. A patch on the insole notes the pair was specially designed for Jackie Robinson Day 2024.

Nike Cortez TXT Jackie Robinson - 2025

Following a stretch of Brooklyn Dodgers-inspired color palettes, Nike went subtle for its 2025 Jackie Robinson Day release. The Cortez received a clean black-and-white color scheme, accented by red baseball-stitching details on the heel, metallic silver number 42 hits on the tongue, and a multi-color “42” graphic on the insole. Robinson’s jersey number is also split between the left and right heel tab.

Joining the Cortez was a Griffey 2 MCS Cleat, which uses the insole graphic found on the Cortez on the upper. Alongside the multi-color barrage of 42s are accenting chrome hits on the Swoosh and a clean white-and-black color palette.

Jordan athletes in the MLB were given a special pair of Air Jordan 3s to wear on Jackie Robinson Day, and the pair that Mookie Betts rocked went up for purchase via Fanatics. The pair is basically a True Blue AJ 3, which is set to return later in 2026, but the sole unit forgoes the blue detail, and the heel tab is done in a semi-translucent finish. Beneath the Nike Air logo is Robinson’s number 42 in blue.

Nike V5 RNR Jackie Robinson - 2026

The latest tribute to Jackie is on one of Nike’s newest silhouettes, the V5 RNR. This budget-friendly mesh runner continues the subtle tribute we saw the year prior, with the upper done in a black-and-white combo. The only visible nods to Robinson are via the 42 embroidered on the tongue, the special “Jackie” graphic on the heel tab, and a graphic of Robinson stealing home plate on the insole.
