The Air Jordan 40 Debuts July 2025
Updated on •Published
Many parts of Michael Jordan’s career set him apart from your typical NBA superstar. For starters, he entered the league in 1985, rocking his signature sneaker, the Air Jordan 1, with the Air Jordan line continuing every year even past his three separate retirements. With 2025 being 40 years since the original Air Jordan, it only makes sense that we’d get our hands on the Air Jordan 40 this year.
Details on the model are in our write-up from Jordan Brand's official unveiling. We know a few key facts about its development and upcoming colorways. Expect to see Chicago-themed renditions and other classic Jordan Brand color palettes, like all-black Blackouts, Tarheels-themed UNC colors, and greyscale iterations. We can also confirm that Michael Jordan is playing a pivotal role in the design and development of this 40th sneaker. Even though he always has to give his stamp of approval, he’s taking a much more hands-on role for this release.
As for design inspiration, it has a performance mindset and takes cues from classic Air Jordans such as the 3, 5, 12, and 13. For the last handful of Air Jordan models, the team went back 30 years for each release to inspire specific details and design elements, meaning the Air Jordan 39 takes design cues from the Jordan 9, the 38 from the 8, etc.
The Air Jordan 40 will debut in Fall 2025, starting with The Classic colorway on July 12. The Blue Suede and Dusty Rose editions will follow on August 20 and September 20, respectively. They will be available through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. In men’s sizing, the retail price is $205.
