Justin Saunders and his Montreal-based design studio, JJJJound, are masters of minimalism. The majority of footwear collaborations from JJJJound could easily be mistaken as GR renditions of their respective models, though the whole shtick is really a “if you know, you know” type of deal. After working on two projects with Asics, the Gel-Kayano 14 and Gel-Quantum 360 AMP, and a Puma Mostro collaboration, JJJJound is working with Salomon.
With the rising popularity of Salomon in recent years and the intersection of gorpcore and JJJJound fans, you’d expect there to be a slew of projects under the duo’s belt. However, they’ve only officially collaborated once in the past, on the XT-Wings 2 silhouette in June 2023. Unlike the past JJJJound x Salomon link-up, this latest release from the two sees the XT-6 silhouette covered in a primarily black finish across its upper.

Ripstop nylon serves as the base layer, while fused TPU film reinforces the upper in key areas, including the midfoot, toe, and collar. These are done in black and dark grey shades, accented by hits of red on the Salomon Lab text near the lateral toe, the S logo atop the tongue, and the JJJJound labeling on the medial collar. Final details on the upper include JJJJound text replacing the Salomon logo on the spine of the tongue and the quickLACE system done in black. Below sits a tonal black foam midsole with EnergyCell cushioning, the Agile Chassis System (ACS), and a Mud Contagrip rubber outsole.
The JJJJound x Salomon XT-6 Black will release in the coming weeks via JJJJound online. A wider release via Salomon and select retailers has not been confirmed at this time.
