Collaborative efforts from atmos Tokyo have remained steady and constant over the last year, working with various footwear brands from across the globe. One collaborator in its rotating cast of partners, Puma, has worked with atmos twice in 2024, once on the Palermo with Baggage Coffee and on an upcoming Persona 3 Reloaded-inspired three-way collaboration. Now, capping off the year with Puma and continuing a series that started in 2021, the duo reunited for the Puma Suede VTG Made in Japan Skajan 3.0.
Inspired by sukajan, a souvenir jacket that became popular after World War II and is often embroidered with oriental motifs, the silhouette comes coated in a nylon and suede mixture. Military green shades take over the suede portions of the tongue, toe, eyestays, and heel, while the midfoot paneling takes on the nylon finish. Above this nylon sits embroidered details on both the lateral and medial sides.
The lateral side of the upper comes with the normal Puma formstrip. However, atmos adds an embroidered dragon across the logo. On the medial side, a map of Japan is embroidered, marking some of the country’s biggest cities and even nodding to Mt. Fuji near the heel. Golden Puma branding graces the heel, matching the golden hue of the formstrip, while the tongue tag contains the classic green, black, and white Puma woven tongue label. Finishing the sneaker is the white rubber midsole.
The atmos x Puma Suede VTG Made in Japan Skajan 3.0 will release on December 20, 2024, through atmos Tokyo online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is 29,700 Yen (approx $190 USD).
