Nike pays attention to the trends and quickly pivots when it notices a swing in a specific direction. As we all know, mesh runners have become the go-to for many sneakerheads, with The Swoosh pulling out pairs from the archives and introducing new variants of this sneaker style over the last year. In a modern update to the Air Pegasus 2K5, Nike brought forth the Air Pegasus Wave earlier in 2024, with the latest colorway on the model taking inspiration from New Orleans.
Alongside this Pegasus Wave, Nike is also paying homage to NOLA through an upcoming Dunk Low release. However, the two pairs are very different in color palette and inspiration. The Dunk took inspiration from the French Quarter, one of the city's most well-known districts, while this Pegasus Wave takes its inspiration from brass instruments, a key part of the jazz music the city is historically known for.
Although most of the mesh, TPU, and leather paneling on the silhouette comes coated in black, chrome overlays hit the profile of the toebox, the vamp, and around the collar. These panels are all lined with a metallic gold, almost brass-like detail that evokes the sense of jazz instruments. Continuing to ground the sneaker are black details on the midfoot TPU panel, tongue, lace set, and sockliner, all accented by golden branding details.
Tying together with the Dunk Low, the font used for the Nike text on the insole is identical to the one used on the low-top retro basketball model. Underfoot, the Peg Wave features a blacked-out foam midsole with a golden pop of Nike Air branding near the toe and a black rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Pegasus Wave Premium NOLA will release on January 9, 2025, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $160.
