The US Open is here and the eyes of the tennis world are focused on Queens, New York, where the best in the world are showing off more than their backhand. In a rare pre-match drop, Nike released Naomi Osaka’s latest GP Challenge 1 PE she is expected to wear on-court during her first round sets tomorrow.
Naomi Osaka’s US Open-themed Nike GP Challenge 1 features an upper covered in three shades of red alongside a black Swoosh. Of course, an Osaka shoe would be nothing without her personal flair, and the US Open colorway is no different, adding flourishes of rose print to the lateral side panels, tongue, and insole. The PE also features Osaka’s “NO” Nike logo on the tongue and insole.
Osaka has always been serious about her on-court sneakers and outfits, and she’s already shown out in floral prints this year. Osaka started the year with a sunflower colorway of her favorite hardcourt shoe at the Australian Open, and broke out a GP Challenge 1 in a pink cherry blossom colorway with a pale pink outfit and flower berets to match at the French Open in May. After a second-place finish at the National Bank Open in Montreal earlier this month, Osaka immediately realized that the placement would put her into seeding for the US Open, and made sure fans knew she was coming to NYC with fashion in mind. “If anyone tunes in, my outfit is super fire.”
The Naomi Osaka x Nike GP Challenge 1 US Open is available now through Nike in women’s sizes, with the retail price set at $170. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
