Naomi Osaka’s Nike GP Challenge 1 Sunflower

Although non-Tennis fans may know Naomi Osaka because of her previous relationship with music artist Cordae, she’s one of the best players on the face of the planet. She has also had many viral moments on the court wearing Nike footwear and continues to do so during the Australian Open. In her first match of the 2025 tournament, she sported a pair of sunflower-inspired Nike GP Challenge 1s.
Retaining the GP Challenge 1 performance features, the model comes coated in sunflower yellow hues alongside baroque brown and silver hits. While the color palette alone evokes the sense of sunflowers, multiple direct references are found throughout the design. Along the toe is an embroidered sunflower design, while the tongue comes with two sunflowers constructed out of suede and Naomi Osaka’s logo. Osaka chose the sunflower design to symbolize longevity and vitality and as a way to wish good luck for the new year.

Moving to the lateral midfoot, we can see a baroque brown TPU panel helps reinforce the mesh base, while metallic silver makes up the Swoosh logo. On the opposite side, we see a smaller metallic silver Swoosh and text that reads “The sun shines where you are” near the collar. Even with this playful colorway, the model is still tooled for the court, coming with an Air Zoom unit and high-abrasion rubber on the forefoot for traction and durability.
Naomi Osaka’s Nike GP Challenge 1 Sunflower W for the Australian Open was released on January 10, 2025, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store.
