Devin Booker takes the inspiration from his off-court lifestyle seriously. After months of waiting for the sequel to Booker’s debut Nike Book 1 signature shoe, Booker lit his last Book 1 colorway on fire, and from the ashes rose a new Phoenix superstar. Booker turned to a new chapter this week, debuting the Nike Book 2 against the Trailblazers. Now, as Nike gets set to launch Book’s latest pro model, we’ve got a look at one of the upcoming debut colorways, the black and orange Rising pair, inspired by the sneaker line’s rebirth and the city of Phoenix, Booker’s adopted home for his entire 11-year NBA career.
The Nike Book 2 Rising starts with an all-black suede upper, adding a gradient Swoosh to the side panels that sets the shoe on fire, moving through yellow, orange, red, and back again. The fiery Phoenix theme continues onto the Air Force 1-inspired midsole, which is transformed into a pit of molten lava with a crackling mix of black and bubbling hot red. The outsole is translucent for a clean contrast to the black and burnt colorway. The colorway is finished with “Chapter Two” branding on the heel in bright orange. Alongside this pair, the Phoenix rendition finishes the story of the mythological bird.
Booker took his love for classic cars as inspiration for his first shoe and plenty of PE colorways, and that theme got even more influential this time around, giving the shoe a low-rider appeal, bringing the Air Zoom unit into the forefoot for a court feel that’s as low to the ground as possible. Adding to his love for cars, the Book 2 takes its shape from skate shoes and classic Nike sportswear models like the Air Zoom Spiridon.
