As the mesh runner trend remains at the forefront of sneaker and fashion circles, brands have no choice but to bring more and more models in this category to market. For New Balance, one of the originators of this style, they’ve successfully brought back older models that fell to the wayside, like the recently revived New Balance 740. Alongside an all-new Phantom Firefly rendition, the model is dipped in a stealthy color palette of Black Silver Metallic.
Deep black hues dominate most of the silhouette, accented by pops of metallic silver on select portions. A wide-spaced mesh acts as the base here, visible on the toe, midfoot, heel, and tongue, while linear leather overlays along the midfoot, heel, and mudguard primarily take on the same black finish as the mesh. Pops of silver metallic line these leather panels and surround the TPU N logo on the midfoot.
Black laces contrast with the silver metallic New Balance and 740 logos along the tongue tag, while more branding details on the heel also take on this silver hue. The canvas used on the heel counter, which also comes in a stark black finish, provides a break from the leather and mesh build. The blacked-out Abzorb-cushioned foam midsole and rubber outsole round out the look, borrowed from the New Balance 530 model.
The New Balance 740 Black Silver Metallic will release on December 15, 2024, through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
