Last year, New Balance introduced the world to multiple variants of the 1906R silhouette, with the 1906L Loafer being the most polarizing of the bunch. To the surprise of many detractors, this fusion of sportswear and traditional fashion has sold out across the board in the handful of colorways that have hit shelves so far. While we are still awaiting the release of the Silver Metallic Dark Juniper colorway, images of a Black Suede rendition have emerged from overseas.
Coinciding with another suede-covered rendition of the 1906L, the Rich Oak colorway, this stealthy, all-black iteration opts for a deep black finish on its suede paneling. This material covers the entire upper, maintaining key features from the standard 1906R, like triangular overlays and mudguards. However, with the lack of laces and slip-on construction, we see new details like the traditional loafer strap across the forefoot and moving the N logo to the toebox.

Back on the heel, the TPU lattice heel counter remains untouched, featuring NB logos in a metallic silver finish on the spine. Even though the model’s upper has been transformed to reflect the design language of a loafer, the sole unit retains its sportswear construction. Here, the tooling, borrowed from the 860v2, has an all-black finish from top to bottom.
The New Balance 1906L Black Suede will release in Spring 2025 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $160.
