The Major League Baseball postseason is officially here. Game 162 concluded and there was plenty of last-minute action that shook up the standings (sorry Mets fans). Ahead of the playoffs beginning, Jordan Brand is showing out on the diamond with a new pair of Shattered Backboard-inspired cleats, but unfortunately for sneakerheads and Orioles and Giants fans, neither of the league’s teams with black and orange jerseys made the playoffs.
Staying in line with its inspiration, the Air Jordan 1 Retro MCS Shattered Backboard keeps the same colorblocking as the OG colorway, with a black toe panel, Swoosh, and tongue, orange toe box and heel, and white sidewalls and midsole finished with even more orange on the outsole. Instead of a traditional Jordan 1 outsole, though, the MCS adds grass and dirt-ready baseball spikes.
Air Jordan 1 Retro MCS Shattered Backboard
After a retro release of high and low top Shattered Backboard 1s this year, Jordan Brand went all out with the black and orange colorway, dropping low and mid top football cleats and even a mule made for the golf course. If you’re unfamiliar with the pair, the colorway was originally released in 2015 and is inspired by the uniform of the Italian basketball team Pallacanestro Trieste. MJ was playing in an exhibition game overseas in 1985, and after going up for a dunk, he shattered the glass backboard. Since the 2015 release, the pair has been seen as the benchmark for “quality” on Air Jordan 1s, with the comparison to the SBB almost inescapable when discussing leather on any release.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro MCS Shattered Backboard will be released Holiday 2025 through Nike and select retailers in-store and online. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $175. For more retro Jordan news and release info, make sure to download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
