The entire sneaker industry has taken to the pitch in preparation for the World Cup lately. No matter the brand or silhouette, companies from Nike and Jordan to adidas and Puma are doing their best to connect with soccer fans across the globe. At New Balance, the Boston-based brand is once again tapping terrace culture’s original grail brand - Stone Island - for a new pair of co-branded cleats.
Announced in a pair of social media posts, the first teaser features a picture of the underside of a cleat with Stone Island compass branding right in the middle of the spikes. In a follow-up post, a short video is taken from the backseat of a parked car while a soccer player juggles a ball in front of the hood, while New Balance and Stone Island air fresheners fall perfectly into the center of the shot, hanging from the rear-view mirror.
