As the silhouette that helped bring popularity back to New Balance in the sneaker world, the 550 rightfully continues to appear in various makeups going into the tail end of 2022. On top of collaborative efforts from CDG and Aime Leon Dore, the inline releases that are headed our way ooze vintage vibes, like the “White Nightwatch Green” colorway. Add another release to the calendar as a classic combination of Black Gum has just appeared on the low-top basketball-turned-lifestyle silhouette.
Unlike the majority of 550 colorways, a mixture of suede, smooth leather, and canvas takes over the silhouette, most of which dons a singular shade of black from head to toe. Patches of suede can be found on the heel overlay and toe, while the rest of the overlays partake in a leather finish. Branding details remain true to the OG with “550” stamped on the lowermost eyestay, a basketball graphic atop the tongue, and the classic “N” logo found along the quarter panel. Underfoot, a black 550 midsole gets paired with a gum rubber outsole.
The New Balance 550 Black Gum is set to release in 2022 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
