Some streetwear brands take inspiration from sports or bygone eras of pop culture, while others simply follow the fashion cycles to try to glom onto the latest trends. In Venice, California, Born X Raised co-founders Spanto and 2Tone have lifelong ties to every corner of the city, from graffiti crews and the skateboarding scene to old folks and troublemakers. Born X Raised has been holding it down for the local scene for over a decade. When Spanto passed away in 2023, the brand stepped into a new era but kept the same direction.

From Venice to Mexico City

For the brand’s latest collaboration, Born X Raised took a trip south of the border to Mexico City, teaming up with Vans for a new pair of Authentics with a party to match. Seen in a classic set of party pictures posted to the Vans Instagram, the Venice crew took over the House of Vans Mexico City, with a T-shirt retrospective on one wall, custom bracelets, and pairs of white Vans decorated in BxR branding. On the BxR Instagram page, the brand reminisced fondly on the trip.

“We came to La Ciudad de México to fuck shit up for a week straight. We ate mariscos ‘til we tapped out, threw an absolute banger of a party with Los Diablos and New Era, survived off beer and electrolit, and gave away some cool shit with Vans. The energy and the people in Mexico City are unmatched; thank you for welcoming us back to your city and for fucking with us so heavy.”
