For most skate shops, you only get one shot to collab with a major brand like Nike SB. At Bluetile Skate Shop in South Carolina, owner David Toole and the team are making sure they add as many personal and local details as possible, as well as some unique custom switches to the iconic silhouette.
The Bluetile Skate Shop x Nike SB Dunk Low Monarch turns the SB Dunk into a monarch butterfly for shop employee Irving Juarez, turning the shoe into the symbol of strength in Mexican immigrant communities. Taking the open lace wings of the Dunk SB High and bringing them onto the low, the Bluetile Dunk is subtle at first glance, but open its panels to reveal orange and black butterfly wings.
On the upper, a scaley, textured, shimmering black on the toe, lace, and heel panels mingles with a foil-textured blue shade on the toebox and side panels. A teal Swoosh ducks under the lace wing, and fuzzy black laces bring it together. More Monarch accents are added to the heel panel, Bluetile co-branding is added to the tongue label, and the back of the tongue features the South Carolina flag for a little local flavor.
